Colleges and Universities
Wichita State University is a public four-year university of 15,003 students. The faculty is exceptional – about 90% of professors and instructors have doctoral or terminal degrees. The student-to-faculty ratio is about 29 to 1. WSU has six undergraduate colleges: arts and sciences, engineering, fine arts, education, business and health professions. These colleges offer 60 degree programs in more than 200 areas of study. The graduate school offers 44 masters degrees, 10 doctoral programs and three specialist degree programs in more than 100 areas of study.
WSU College of Engineering is a prime source of new engineering talent and ongoing research. WSU offers accredited Bachelor, Masters and PhD degrees in aerospace, electrical, industrial and mechanical engineering. In addition, there are accredited Bachelor degree programs in computer and manufacturing engineering, and a Master of Engineering Management program. The College is well-equipped with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, and students are required to take laboratory-oriented courses. Engineering faculty direct research and development programs involving undergraduate and graduate students in local and nationally sponsored projects – an effort which has received wide recognition.
Friends University is a comprehensive four-year liberal arts institution providing a Christian environment for students of all ages. Friends is the largest, fastest-growing private university in Kansas, with an enrollment of approximately 2,900 students. Friends is organized into three colleges: arts and sciences, business and continuing education. The university offers one associate’s degree program, 46 bachelor’s degree programs and nine master’s degree programs.
Newman University is a private four-year liberal arts university. Newman awards six associate’s degrees, 27 bachelor’s degrees, pre-professional degrees in seven academic areas and has four master’s degree programs. These degrees come in five broad academic divisions: business and computer information systems, education, humanities and social science, nursing and allied health, and science and mathematics. Enrollment is approximately 3,000 students.
Southwestern College is a private four-year institution with degree programs in fields including security management, business, computer science, nursing and liberal arts. Southwestern offers a two-year MBA program tailored to working professionals. Southwestern also offers online degree programs including business administration, computer programming and human resources development. Certification-preparation programs can be taught on-site, including Certified Quality Manager (CQM.) Enrollment is 1,077.
Tabor College is a private four-year institution offering bachelor degrees in liberal arts and business. Tabor also offers a master’s program in accounting. Enrollment is more than 700.
Bethel College is a private Christian-oriented four-year liberal arts institution offering a wide range of degree programs including accounting, business and economics, computer science and nursing. Enrollment is 540.
University of Kansas School of Medicine – Wichita is a community-based medical school providing clinical training for about 100 junior and senior medical students each year. UKSM-W regularly ranks among the top 10 primary care medical schools in the nation.
Baker University is known as Kansas's oldest University, established in 1858. The Wichita campus offers accelerated degree completion programs in business and information systems aimed at working adults. Baker also offers a 22-month MBA program and a Master's in Education and Master's in School Leadership for educators. Current enrollment is more than 3,000.
Hesston College is a private two-year institution offering programs in aviation, nursing, business, computer science and liberal arts. Enrollment is 430.
Webster University has 100 locations worldwide (including 55 military bases) with total graduate enrollment of 16,000. Webster’s Wichita campus is on McConnell Air Force Base. Open to military and civilian students, Webster offers non-traditional Masters programs for working professionals. Programs offered are Masters of Business Administration (MBA), Masters of Arts in Business, Business & Organizational Security Management, Computer Resources and Information Management, Human Resources Development, Human Resources Management, and Management. Local enrollment is 200.
University of Phoenix is the nation’s largest private accredited university, offering degree programs aimed at working professionals. Courses are taught with combinations of online and classroom learning. Offerings include bachelor and graduate degrees in business administration, business management, information technology and technology management. Local enrollment is 1,000.
Immediate Resident Tuition for Recruited or Transferred Persons
Persons recruited or transferred to Kansas for a full-time job qualify for resident tuition immediately at state universities, as do their spouses and dependents residing with them (no 12-month residency requirement.) Contact the WSU Registrar regarding required employer documentation.
